Grow Sunflowers

Growing plants from seeds is great fun and sunflowers are very popular with children because they can grow so fast.

What you need:

  • A packet of Sunflower Seeds
  • Compost
  • 3″-4″ plant pots to start off the seeds
  • Large plant pots to transplant the plants into
  • Water

sunflowersPlant one seed in each pot and water well then leave the pots in a warm spot like a windowsill to germinate.  Hopefully you should see tiny shoots appear quite quickly.  Keep the pots well watered and when the plants have grown too big for their pots transfer them into larger pots or straight into the garden.

You will need to protect the plants from slugs and snails initially but with lots of watering they should grow big and tall.  You may need to stake them to keep them upright.
